Friday Poll ~ What Are You Reading?

The results of last week’s poll—“Which Genre(s) Should Be Bestsellers“—put Sci-Fi in the lead with a three-way tie for second—Fantasy, Speculative, and Literary—last place went to Humor; and, “Other” had the write-in “Saga”…

This week’s poll is an idea from one of our regulars—What Are You Reading?

There are the options of Fiction and Non-Fiction—then, a short list of genres—then, the all-purpose “Other“…

You can choose either Fiction, Non-Fiction, or both…

You can also choose a Genre…

You could also write in a Genre in “Other“…

Or, write in the name of a book in “Other“…

And, you can do All of The Above :-)

I am presently reading “The Dinner Party” by Herman Koch, a Dutch Writer. It is a translation and I don’t like reading in translation but that can’t be helped. I am excited for 2 reasons – firstly, for a very long time, I have not been able to read anything (I don’t mean that I did not get around to it, I mean I found myself mentally, emotionally unable to read…for some indefinable reason). Suddenly it seems the curse has been lifted and this is my 2nd book in the last few weeks (the previous one was “The Collected Works of A.J.Fikry”). Secondly, because I am fascinated by stories that seem on the outside to be dealing with an idea, plot and place in a simple very elegant minimalist manner, but which really have a great deal to say internally. This entire novel is set in a restaurant where 2 sets of parents meet to discuss their sons….who have done something terrible… that is on the book blurb, so it can’t be a spoiler, really, and I will stop there :-)

Scary, Jane—what a curse that must have been—not even being able to read—though, I have had a few moments of it attack me, at odd intervals :-)

And, thank you for taking the time to tell us about those books…
