~ Explorations In Reading, Writing & Publishing ~

World-Wide Publishing ~ Bringing Us Closer . . .

I live in the U.S.A.

My best friend, also an author, lives in Australia.

My “employer”, a former publisher, lives in the U.K.

Six days a week I interact with writers and readers from all over this beautiful planet.

Part of world-wide publishing obviously includes the individual initiative of those who don’t write books—the adventurous Bloggers—sometimes featured here

Google Alerts helps me find stories and sites for this blog—all over the world.

Having self-published my novel, I was naturally attracted to a story in The Hindu about Rasana Atreya‘s experience—My self-publishing journey.

From the article:

“Early this year the unpublished manuscript of my novel, Tell a Thousand Lies, was shortlisted for the 2012 Tibor Jones South Asia prize. I was ecstatic when I was offered a publishing contract soon after, by one of India’s largest publishing houses. Yet, I declined the offer.”

“Giving up a publishing contract, the holy grail for any writer? — my friends thought I was a few neurons short in the brain. But the unchartered territory aspect of it — going where no Indian woman had gone before — appealed to me.”

“If you decide to self-publish, investigate your options carefully. It is easy to get scammed on the Internet. To confuse the issue, a lot of companies are calling themselves self-publishers.”

“Does this mean I would rule out traditional publishers for my next book? Not at all. I am always open to new experiences.”

Here’s Rasana Atreya’s Author’s WebSite.

I’m inspired to find someone half-way around the world from me engaged in similar activities.

I find more depth and fascination in my chosen profession when I contemplate the growing network of authors our human family is engendering

I think it’s cool as hell to be able to end this post with Rasana’s book trailer video :-)

And my google alerts (in India) picked this up. How cool is that? :-)

And did I say thank you for featuring me here?
